Description

N-Deacetyl-N-methylcolchicine (Colcemid) is related to colchicine yet it is less toxic. Colcemid depolymerizes microtubules and limits their formation. Appropriate dilutions inactivate the spindle fiber formation, thus arresting cells in metaphase and allowing cell harvest and karyotyping to be performed.
