Description
Puromycin is an aminonucleoside antibiotic used for selection of mammalian cell lines expressing the puromycin resistance gene. The antibiotic is active against gram-positive bacteria and various animal and insect cells by inhibiting the peptidyl transfer on prokaryotic and eukaryotic ribosomes. Transfected cells become resistant to puromycin by expression of the pac gene encoding a puromycin N-acetyl transferase.
