Description
Hygromycin B is a unique aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus, which kills bacteria, fungi, and higher eukaryotic cells by inhibiting protein synthesis. It is used for the selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells that contain the hygromycin B resistance gene. Resistance to hygromycin B is conferred by the E. coli hygromycin B resistance gene (hyg or hph). Hygromycin B has a different mode of action than G-418 or Blasticidin S selection reagents, making it an excellent choice for dual-selection experiments.
